October School Board Minutes (2022)

NORTH STAR PUBLIC SCHOOL REGULAR SCHOOL BOARD MEETING
OCTOBER 19, 2022

The School Board of North Star Public School District #10 met in regular session on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, in the North Star shop classroom.

PRESENT: Chris Doehler, Michelle Gibbens, Jeremiah Halley, Vickie Jacksen, Jeana Jorde, Brooks Larson, Paul Wagenman; Administration: Jeff Hagler, Jessica Gunderson, Nancy Reiser, Cathy Johnson. VISITORS: Karmen Teubner, Daniel Grande - NS staff.

Board President Jacksen called the meeting to order at 7:01 a.m. No changes to the agenda.
MOTION made by Michelle Gibbens, seconded by Chris Doehler, to approve the minutes of the September 21, 2022 regular meeting. MOTION CARRIED - all voting aye.
MOTION by Michelle Gibbens, seconded by Brooks Larson, to approve the October bills presented for payment. MOTION CARRIED-all voting aye.
Monthly financial reports for September 2022 were reviewed.
Principals’ and Activities Director Reports:

Elementary Principal’s report by Mrs. Gunderson: PK-6 enrollment 181 plus 1 SPED PK, attendance 97%; reported on recent activities; discussed interactions with parents who have remained in the school building after dropping child(ren) off.

High School Principal’s report by Mrs. Reiser: JH/HS enrollment of 114, attendance 96.2%; reported on recent, ongoing, and upcoming activities.

Activities Director report by Mr. Hagler: FY24 FB co-op with Leeds has been approved; FY24 regional football schedule was presented; reviewed information re: 3-class basketball system proposal: board consensus is to vote to support the proposal presented by the focus group; letters w/b sent to parents of hockey coop participants explaining the participation requirements: North Star will pay $500/person participation fee but provides NO transportation; all transportation is the sole responsibility of participants/parents. Reviewed and discussed administrative guidelines for spectator attendance at extracurricular activities.

Superintendent’s Report by Mr. Hagler: Discussed possible transportation options for potential FY24 PK student living outside school district and current bus routes; no-charge tuition agreement presented for board approval. MOTION made by Jeana Jorde, seconded by Michelle Gibbens, to approve a no-charge tuition agreement with Rugby School District for three home schooled students to be admitted to North Star for athletic participation.
MOTION CARRIED on a roll call vote: Doehler-yes, Gibbens-yes, Halley-yes, Jorde-yes, Larson-yes, Wagenmanyes, Jacksen-yes. Reported on ALICE PD training and security door hardware recommended by the trainer; additional federal Supply Chain Assistance funds awarded to school lunch program.

Old Business: NDSBA convention attendees will be Jeremiah Halley and Brooks Larson-New Member Seminar, Jeff Hagler-Law Seminar, and Vickie Jacksen-Convention.

New Business: Reviewed superintendent evaluation results.
MOTION made by Michelle Gibbens, seconded by Paul Wagenman, to approve the fall 2022 superintendent evaluation results. MOTION CARRIED on a roll call vote: Doehler-yes, Gibbens-yes, Halley-yes, Jorde-yes, Larsonyes, Wagenman-yes, Jacksen-yes.
