NORTH STAR PUBLIC SCHOOL SPECIAL SCHOOL BOARD MEETING
JUNE 30, 2021
The School Board of North Star Public School District #10 met for a special session on Wednesday, June 30, 2021 in North Star Room 101.
PRESENT: Chris Doehler, Michelle Gibbens, Vickie Jacksen, Jeana Jorde, Bob Kennedy, Jay Nicholas, John Peters;
Administration: Jeff Hagler, Nancy Reiser, Cathy Johnson. VISITORS: Paul Wagenman, board member elect; Daniel Grande, North Star staff/football coach.
Board President Jacksen called the meeting to order at 7:33 a.m. Agenda item 5. a. 1. was designated as Elementary Resignation.
Elementary Principal’s Report: Mr. Hagler reported that Sara Walsh has resigned her elementary position as a result of a planned move out-of-state. Liquidated damages have been assessed in the amount of $1000 if paid by June 30th, to increase to $2000 if paid in July.
Old Business: The tennis court surface can be refinished with ESSER funds; TriState Paving has been contacted for a cost estimate to surface the court with asphalt. Information on reconstruction options for the football field and track and moving the crow’s nest, goal posts, lights, and scoreboards in conjunction with TCMC’s building project plans was presented in Dropbox documents and input from North Star board members Gibbens and Peters who also serve on the TCMC board. TCMC will cover the cost of an irrigated sod football field or install a turf field with a North Star cost share of approximately $500K. The sod versus turf options were discussed at length with input from board members, visitor Daniel Grande and Dropbox information on artificial turf.
MOTION to change the orientation of the football field from north/south to east/west to facilitate the TCMC building project was made by Jay Nicholas and seconded by Chris Doehler. MOTION CARRIED on a roll call vote with 5 ayes and 2 abstentions: Doehler-yes, Jorde-yes, Kennedy-yes, Nicholas-yes, Jacksen-yes; Gibbens and Peters abstained due
to membership on TCMC board.
Next meeting set for Wednesday, July 21, 2021; meal to be served at 6:00 p.m. with annual meeting to follow at 7:00 p.m.
