Board Minutes Frame with Bearcat

The North Star Public School District #10 School Board met in regular session on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 in North Star Room 101 and via Zoom meeting ID 822 3617 4038.

PRESENT: Chris Doehler, Michelle Gibbens (Zoom), Vickie Jacksen, Jeana Jorde, John Peters (Zoom); Administration:
Jeff Hagler, Jessica Gunderson, Nancy Reiser, Cathy Johnson. ABSENT: Bob Kennedy, Jay Nicholas. NO VISITORS.

Board President Jacksen called the meeting to order at 7:03 p.m. No changes to the agenda.

MOTION by Jorde, seconded by Doehler, to approve the minutes of the January 20, 2021 meeting. MOTION CARRIEDall voting aye.

MOTION by Doehler, seconded by Gibbens, to approve the February bills presented for payment. MOTION CARRIED - all voting aye.

Reviewed monthly financial reports for January 2021.
Principals’ Reports:

Elementary Principal report by Mrs. Gunderson: PK-6 enrollment: 193; attendance: 94.5%; PT conference attendance 85%. Discussed preliminary 2021/22 staffing plans to move K teacher to PK 3 days/wk with additional duties and possible additional 2nd/4th grade hire.

High School Principal report by Mrs. Reiser: JH/HS enrollment: 126; attendance: 94.7%; PT conference attendance 39.7%. Upcoming activities: ACT test, Book Fair, Honor Society induction banquet, district music contest at North Star.

Activities Director report by Mr. Hagler: GBB/BBB schedules for 2021/22; report on 2021 GBB district tourney; beginning search for replacement activity coach bus; Fan of the Year awards to Harlan & Lavonne Wagenman; wall removal in Family Mutual Bldg to be done by Tech Ed students for conversion to new weight room.

Superintendent’s Report by Mr. Hagler: Conducting survey re: teacher/student interest in summer school session;  Health & Safety plan update (no changes); discussed makeup schedule for days lost due to COVID issues – 11/6 will be  made up on 3/18; no makeup required for 12/21 and 12/22; update on staff vaccinations; ESSER II allocation is  $246,623; additional ESSER III funding may be 3-5 times ESSER II amount.

Old Business: Local quote requested/not yet received for light fixture conversion to LED’s; Doehler reported on NDSBA  Negotiations seminar; reviewed superintendent evaluation results.

MOTION by Doehler, seconded by Jorde to approve superintendent evaluation results as presented. MOTION CARRIED on a roll call vote: Doehler-yes, Gibbens-yes, Jorde-yes, Jacksen-yes (Kennedy, Nicholas, Peters absent).

New Business: School board candidacy deadline notice to be published by March 6; quotes for new bell/intercom/clock system for preliminary review; Towner County Commission letter re: Robotics program armory use.
