Welcome to class!

dr-seuss

Dear parents and students

Hi! My name is Miss McTaggart, and I will be your 3rd grade teacher this year at North Star School. I am so excited that you will be in my class this year! I can’t wait to meet you and start our year together.

OUR CLASSROOM

This year we will be having flexible seating in our classroom. This means you will get to pick where you sit every day! You will have the options of sitting at a regular desk, at a table with chairs, a table with yoga balls or crate seats, or at a table with balance disks on the floor.

Flexible seating helps students find their learning style to learn in the best way they possibly can. It also helps students focus and do better in school.

We will also have a variety of hands-on learning activities, games, and centers- especially for math and reading!

COMMUNICATION

Please feel free to contact me at school at 701-968-4416, by email at torie.mctaggart@k12.nd.us. I welcome your thoughts and am looking forward to working together to make first grade a successful year!

HOMEWORK

There will be very little homework coming home. Most homework will come from work that is not finished in class, missing work, or anything extra that I may send home (such as memorizing facts).

SNACK

North Star Elementary students are offered a milk break each afternoon. Cost for the milk is $.60/ day. Please be aware that the cost of the milk program is NOT covered with Free/Reduced lunch. Many families choose to send a snack with their student each day for milk break.

Your child may bring in a water bottle each day and will be allowed to keep it at their desk to drink throughout the day.

I look forward to seeing you August 23! Remember, Back to School Night at North Star is August 21 at 5:00 p.m. See you there!

Enjoy the rest of your summer!

Your teacher,

Miss Torie McTaggart
