Welcome to First Grade!

Dear first grade parents and guardians

My name is Miss Alto and I will be your child’s teacher this year. I am excited to meet your children and get to know more about them while helping them grow this year.

A little bit about our first grade classroom:

Communication

Parent teacher communication is extremely important. If you ever have any questions, comments, concerns, or suggestions I am more than happy to visit with you. You can call, email, or stop by the school. The North Star webpage and our first grade Facebook page will also be updated frequently.

Facebook

This year the North Star school is trying to connect with parents through Facebook. The school has a page; “North Star Schools” that will post school related information. I will also have a page for first grade. The group will be secret and only guardians of my students will be invited and able to see what I post. If you would like to be invited to the secret group please let me know your Facebook email and I will invite you.

We will also have a private classroom Facebook page that will be available only to the guardians of the students in our classroom and the North Star administration. If you have not been invited to the Facebook page and would like to, please email me. The classroom page will have updates, important information, pictures, and more!

Take Home Folder

A black school folder will stay in your child’s backpack. One side will contain papers to be returned to school. The other side will be papers to stay at home. Please check your student’s backpack nightly.

Attendance

Everyday your student will be learning new information so it is important they come to school. If they will be absent please let me know and I will help keep them on track.

Homework

We will have weekly spelling tests starting later in the school year. Your student will not have homework unless they choose not to use their time wisely in school or if we have a project that may need parent assistance. Spelling words and homework will be sent home in the take home folder and they will also be on the Facebook page and my school webpage.

SNACK

North Star Elementary students are offered a milk break each afternoon. You may choose to send a healthy snack with your student each day for milk break.

Your child may bring in a water bottle each day and will be allowed to keep it at their desk to drink throughout the day.
